OUR STORY
Hey y'all, good morning! We're currently in the city, having moved here from South Carolina to support my daughter and her husband in growing their businesses. It's been a big change after spending over 50 years in South Carolina.
Living here, we've realized we're craving a quieter lifestyle. I love hearing the birds, but the constant traffic noise can be overwhelming. We're really eager to find a piece of farmland where we can build something not just for ourselves, but for our community too. Our dream includes starting a small kennel and offering pet care services, among other income streams. Our pets are like family, and finding reliable care for them when we go on vacation has been a challenge. So, improving the breed and the benefit of giving our fur babies fields to run and play in are truly important to us. We are thinking that we may do some rescues as well. We will be sharing more about this as we build but today let's talk about growing. Yes, we grow vegetables and fruit tress but lets start at the beginning of our journey
We got started with microgreens to help manage Wayne's anemia. His blood work used to be all over the place, but since we changed our diet, added microgreens, and started taking a high-quality vitamin supplement, he's in the clear! We have the test results to prove it. Wayne gets blood work done every few months, and it's been consistently good. So, without a doubt God led us on the right path to improve Wayne's health.
Microgreens are super easy to grow—perfect for indoors. They don't need much space or fancy equipment. We started with broccoli because of its health benefits. Instead of growing full heads of broccoli, you're just growing seedlings. You can add them to sandwiches, salads, or smoothies. All you need are some seed trays, soil, seeds, and water. If you have a sunny spot or LED lights, you're set. No need for expensive grow lights—just 6000 lumens will do.
Here's how you do it: fill a shallow tray with soil, water it well, and sprinkle seeds evenly on the surface. You will want to press them down with another tray. You can use two trays- one on the bottom with no holes and one on the top with holes so there is no overwatering. Do a second set and stack right on top of the first set. For the third tray, use an empty tray and add a heavy object like a brick on top. Leave them in a cool, dry spot for a few days until you seed sprouts. Don't worry if they look moldy or hairy—it's probably normal. The root system looks funny until you get them in place. Once they're growing, place them under light, water or mist them daily, and in about 7 to 10 days, you'll have microgreens ready to harvest.
Microgreens are a game-changer for us, and they're so easy anyone can do it! If you're looking for a simple way to boost your health, give them a try. Happy growing!
